What is it?
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is a thick tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes and helps maintain the arch of the foot.
Cause
The main cause of plantar fasciitis is repeated stress on the plantar fascia from activities such as running, standing for long periods, having poor walking or running form, wearing inappropriate shoes, or having flat feet or high arches.
Symptoms
Typical symptoms include pain in the heel or arch of the foot, especially when getting up in the morning or after prolonged periods of rest.
Footwear recommendations for plantar fasciitis
1. Cushioning in the heel
Choose shoes that have good cushioning in the heel to absorb the impact when walking. This can help reduce pressure and irritation in the area affected by plantar fasciitis.
ADVICE. The shoe must have an insole that provides adequate cushioning, which is determined by the thickness and density of the material.
2. Thick and flexible sole
Opt for shoes with thick, flexible soles that provide good shock absorption and allow natural movement of the foot. Flexible soles help prevent excessive stress on the plantar fascia.
ADVICE. Avoid leather soles. And height of lasts with a break of no more than 3 cm.
3. Wide toe
Look for shoes with a wide toe box that allows your toes to move freely. This helps prevent compression of the toes and reduces pressure on the forefoot.
ADVICE. Avoid pointed soles.
4. Orthopedic insoles
Consider using orthotics or inserts designed specifically for plantar fasciitis. These can provide additional support and help correct the biomechanics of the foot to reduce pain.
ADVICE. Visit the podiatrist.
5. Breathable material
Opt for shoes with breathable material that will keep your feet cool and dry, especially if you experience excessive foot sweating.
ADVICE. Choose quality leathers and linings made of breathable, antibacterial and highly drying material.
5. Proper fit
It is important that the footwear fits correctly to the width of the feet and is neither too tight nor too loose.
ADVICE. There should be a width sizing, 4 widths for each size, this would solve many problems. At Starlei we adjust our footwear to the width of the foot and ankle.
