HISTORY OF THE MELITTA MODEL

Design in homage to the inventor of the coffee filter, Melitta Bentz . The German Melitta Bentz, born in 1873, invented the coffee filter in 1908. Becoming a housewife, one day she got tired of having to drink coffee with lumps and having to wash the linen bags that were immersed in boiling water to prepare the coffee.

Bentz had the idea of placing a piece of paper, which his children used in their studies, on a brass pot pierced with holes. The filter paper trapped the grounds, allowing only the liquid coffee to pass through. Bentz's new method of brewing coffee was much cleaner and gentler, and was a great success.

Bentz patented his invention in 1908 and founded the company Melitta Bentz & Co. to manufacture and sell coffee filters. His invention revolutionized the way coffee is prepared and became a staple in kitchens around the world.

One hundred years later, the company of Melitta Bentz's successors continues to lead the production of coffee filters.
